Cross-posting about pictures

Because I’m posting for work and school, so why not share some of that love here?

First, a post about Unseenamerica New York State that I made over on the Catherwood Library Blog. Even if you don’t study the workplace, the pictures being created and shared through this project are worth a look.

Second, a post about the Library of Congress Flickr project for the blog my IST 677 class is producing this semester. I love me some folksonomies, and libraries putting their materials out there for people to use and comment on and tag… and right now I’m not sure anything in that arena is bigger than this.

Some very cool stuff out there, folks. Check it out, if you haven’t already.

As I’m sure many of you have heard by now, the White House’s web site got a revamp to match its new resident. It looks rather impressive, which isn’t surprising coming from a candidate who built a large part of his victory on manipulating this mysterious series of tubes. Heck, it’s even got a blog, to which I am in fact now subscribed.

As a side note,  I really just love saying “President Obama”.

I watched the inauguration and the speech in a crowded auditorium full of cheering students, staff, and faculty. From the excitement and engagement, you’d have thought we were out there on the Mall, not viewing the event on a big projection TV hundreds of miles away. And damn if it didn’t fill me with joy, hope, pride… and no small desire to be a part of what might be the building of something great.

It truly does feel like a new day. We should probably be getting to work.

New gig at my old digs

As of tomorrow, I will be leaving behind the humdrum life of a web editor and reference assistant for the hustling and/or bustling existence of a web and digital project manager. This career mobility isn’t as mobile as it might have been, though, as I’ll still be going to work every day at the Catherwood Library; I’m taking over the team I’ve been a part of since 2006.

To say I’m excited about this is an understatement.  I enjoy the work our team does, and the work that the library does.  I also dig the folks I work with, which is always a plus. This move means more management responsibilities (obviously), but also more involvement in the vision end of web work within the library.  It’ll be a big change in a lot of ways, and not just that I’ll be trading a demi-cubicle for an office.

I think it’s gonna be keen. But, despite the image in this post, I doubt I’ll be expanding my wardrobe to include a tie, a briefcase, or hair anytime soon.
